Cordless phones

Cordless phones were consumer home gadgets by around 1980, and by 1982 they were already selling in the millions. Time reported in 1983 that cordless phones had first appeared on the market about three years earlier and that sales reached 2 million units in 1982. They became especially famous in the 1980s and 1990s, when they gave people the freedom to walk around the house while talking. Before that, home phones kept you tied to the wall with a cord. A cordless phone felt modern because you could talk from the couch, kitchen, bedroom, garage, or even outside if the signal reached.
